What's with the llama badges?

I'm probably completely behind or I missed a memo about the things, but I don't get it. What's the deal with them?
It seems I have recieved 30 llamas from my watchers (as I am assuming a llama is a good thing, I'd like to thank all of you who gave me one ^^), and am currently ranked as a "Super Llama" (okay, so I have to admit that's giving me the warm and fuzzies without really knowing why, hehe). But what does it mean? What can you do with it? Why do you give people llama badges?

Can anyone fill me in? I love llamas as much as the next person ("Llama, llama, duck!" need I say more?), but I'm lost as to what's up with this new DA trend...
